MAY 2024 MONTHLY ADDRESS BY THE PRESIDENT OF ATAKUNMOSA HIGH SCHOOL, OSU OLD STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION, LATEEF A. BAKARE, FCA, FBR

Protocols,

Fellow buddies, We thank God almighty for making it possible again for us to witness the beginning of another month.  Time waits for no one!  As usual, my appeal is that we should spend our time productively.  We must continue to add value to ourselves and make others feel our impact.

I’lI continue to show my deep sense of appreciation to every member of this Association for your loyalty and for the respect you always accord the Executive.  Without you, we cannot accomplish much.

I am very pleased to observe that our determination to overhaul the school academic system remains constant and consistent as our school is moving towards the much desired greater height.   We have been trained to function not only as super human beings with willpower to succeed in every given situation, but also as ever willing givers.  This is what makes the difference if you are a real product of Atakunmosa High School, Osu.

Our purpose is clear and our belief in a better tomorrow is unshaken.   We are creating an environment of no dull moment. I am delighted to announce that the Education Committee is at it again in her drive

to improve the standard of education in the school.  A week-long Intensive Revision Program and Examination Techniques Seminar (29th April – 3rd May) was designed to familiarize the students and the teachers with Examiners’ Requirements in the Secondary School Certificate examinations.  This was purposely organized at this period to ensure that both the teachers and students have at their fingertips the do’s and don’ts of the examinations.  The programme was at no cost to the Association as the total cost of two hundred and ten thousand naira (N210,00) was paid by the duo of Adegboye James Adebayo Foundation (N150,000) and Lateef A. Bakare Zakat Fund (N60,000) to fully finance this very important program. I sincerely hope that the candidates would find it useful and we can see tremendous improvement in their results.

We have observed that ignorance has been one of the factors militating against the success of many of the students in external examinations.  To succeed in our bid to improve the present standard, we have come to a conclusion that we need to partner with the school authority, and where necessary with the State Government in our various activities.  We are determined to take a lead in the activities of Old Students’ Associations in Osun State, as a key player in building a better future for Nigerian youths.

Next, I wish to use this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to the members of the Committee on the Digital Project under the distinguished leadership of Mrs. Kofoworola Ajelabi nee Ogunbiyi for a silent revolution that is ongoing.  A persistent review of the project and the innovative approach had led to a bigger perception which necessitated our call for additional donations of (N3,000,000) three million naira only to acquire more equipment.  A pre-operation meeting had been held and installation of security devices in the Centre has commenced.  We are very resolute that by the time the project is concluded, it will definitely showcase the fact that we are indeed second-to-none.  Your support as an active body is hereby once again acknowledged.

Many thanks to our dear brother, Elder Adegboye James Adebayo (1966-1970), who marked his 75th birthday on 31st March 2024 and deemed it fit to give back by paying the NECO fees of thirteen of our students, who met the stipulated criteria, for the 2024 final examination.  May the Lord give you good health and a long life to enjoy the fruits of your labour.

We rejoice with those Buddies who marked their birthdays and celebrated marriages of their children during the month.  I want to show appreciation for the large turnout of Buddies at the wedding ceremony of Mr. and Mrs Aiyegbusi’s daughter. It was indeed another reunion.  We really justified the essence of comradeship.  Thank God for the grace and protection on all of us.

In another mood, let me use this opportunity to commiserate with our big brother and member of the Board of Trustees of the Association, Elder Olalere Olaleye, who lost his mother in-law recently, Late Madam Olabisi Olayinka.  May God grant her eternal rest.  Buddies, most especially those in Lagos and its environ should please endeavour to honour our brother and our “wife”, who is an “Associate Member” of our Association, on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd, May, 2024 at Mama’s obsequies in Lagos. The full program has been posted on the Social Platform.

Finally, let me thank you altogether once again for your support and the confidence you repose in the leadership of the Association.  By way of information, I wish to state that any Buddy or Group or Set who intends to give back to the school in form of one project or the other should please inform the Association formally through the Secretary for proper documentation and acknowledgement.   We also wish to avoid duplication of efforts.  Your labour of love would not be in vain.

I will like to reiterate my earlier call on members to watch out for their health, eat healthy, exercise as necessary and prepare for the renewal of The AHSO Group Life Insurance Policy, which is due for renewal on 1st July 2024.

May Allah, the most Beneficent and most Merciful, be with us and grant our hearts’ desires in the months ahead.

Thank you all.

Lateef A. Bakare, FCA, FBR
